Petrov has opened Russia's eyes to F1

Sochi will warm up for its first race in 2014 by hosting Virgin and Renault during a promotional event in July.

The demonstration will take place on a temporary circuit built around the city centre on July 17.

Both teams have an important Russian connection. Renault driver Vitaly Petrov became the first Russian to race in Formula 1 last year and secured the country’s first podium in Australia back in March.

Virgin are also part-owned by Russian sports-car manufacturers Marussia Motors.

As well as the F1 event, fans will be wowed by famous participants from other motorsport series, including seven-time Paris-Dakar rally winners the Kamaz Master team.
